Who we are

The Cotonou International Marathon 2027 (the "Event") is organised by MyRaceTime International Ltd and its affiliated local entities ("we"). We are the controller of the personal data collected through this website and in connection with the Event. Contact: info@cotonoumarathon.com.

Data we collect

When you register: name, email, phone (and whether it is reachable on WhatsApp), date of birth, gender, nationality, country of residence, shirt size, club, emergency contact, any medical information you choose to provide, estimated finish time, and how you heard about us. For minors: confirmation of parent or guardian consent. When you use the site: account data (login), training progress if you use our plans, messages sent via the contact form, and limited technical data (see the Cookie Policy). Payments are handled by our payment providers; we never store your card or Mobile Money details.

Why we use your data

To process your registration and payments; send Event communications (confirmation, bib, race information, training reminders if enabled); keep you safe on race day (emergency contact, medical information); publish start lists and results; handle requests and support; prevent fraud and abuse; and meet our legal obligations. Bases: performance of the registration contract, your consent (medical information, optional communications), our legitimate interest (safety, fraud prevention) and legal obligations.

Results and photos

Your name, club, nationality, category, bib number and time may be published in start lists and results. Photos and videos are taken during the Event and may be used for its promotion, as set out in the waiver accepted at registration. To object: info@cotonoumarathon.com.

Who we share data with

Only with the providers needed to run the Event: hosting and database (Supabase, hosted in the European Union; Vercel), payments (Paystack; a Benin payment provider for FCFA payments), transactional email (ZeptoMail), image hosting (Cloudinary), and the official timing provider. Where applicable: authorities where the law requires it, and medical services in an emergency concerning you. We never sell your data and never share it with advertisers.

International transfers

Our providers may process data outside your country (notably in the European Union and the United States). We choose providers offering appropriate safeguards.

How long we keep data

Registration data is kept for the relevant edition and the period needed for support, accounting and legal obligations. Sporting results may be kept long term as the Event’s archive. Medical information and emergency contacts are deleted or anonymised after the relevant edition. You can request deletion of your account at any time.

Your rights

Under applicable laws (including Benin’s personal data protection law, Nigeria’s NDPR and, where relevant, the GDPR), you may request access, correction, deletion or portability of your data, or object to certain processing. Write to info@cotonoumarathon.com; we will respond within a reasonable time. You may also contact the competent data protection authority (in Benin: the APDP).

Children

Registrations for participants under 18 must be completed or approved by a parent or legal guardian, who consents to the processing of the minor’s data for the purposes described here.

Security

We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures: encryption in transit, role-based access control, rate limiting on sensitive endpoints, and logging of registration changes. No system is infallible, however.
